Do Van Toan
Toan has extensive experience on projects that have presented special challenges and offered scope for innovation.

He has written some 20 papers and received seven awards. He has 30 years experience in foundation engineering, heavy duty pavements, land stability, earthquake engineering, retaining walls, sea walls and tunnelling.

A Fellow of the Institute of Professional Engineers, New Zealand, Toan has directed the geotechnical input for such iconic developments as Auckland International Airport Upgrading works, Britomart Transport Centre, Sky City and Sky Tower, Northport’s new terminal at Marsden Point, America’s Cup Viaduct Basin, Project Manukau, Otira Viaduct, the Auckland Harbour Bridge retrofit and the Grafton Gully Motorway.

Toan has been instrumental in Beca’s development of innovative applications such as Mudcrete, injection grouting to repair concrete and application of temperature-time to achieve full concrete strength in less than four days.

When he is not working, Toan likes to play tennis, listen to classical music or go tramping.
